We are living through a dark period in human history: wars and age-old hatreds are resurfacing; a new form of imperialism is emerging, seeking to assert itself through technological supremacy; inequalities are growing and the degradation of the planet continues… And yet, hope for a better and fairer world remains.
It is in dark times that words must rise to the occasion and hope must be redoubled. This is one such time.
The Socialist International faces the coming decade with the humility of those who know the world has changed—and with the resolve of those who know why they continue to fight. We are not here to reinvent ourselves; we are here to persevere through innovation.
Our founding values—social justice, democracy, solidarity, human rights—have not aged. They have matured. And today we enrich them with the urgencies of our time: the climate emergency, the digital revolution, feminism as the driving axis of progress, and the defence of truth in the face of manipulation.
That is why we uphold these principles and commitments, which are, at the same time, calls to the conscience of humanity.
Uncompromising democracy. An economy that serves the people. Shared prosperity. A green and just transition. Technology that expands freedoms. Critical, informed and free citizens. Unity among progressive forces in the face of a far right that is already active, coordinated and aggressive at a global scale.
We don’t promise easy solutions. We promise honesty, consistency, and commitment. We promise not to let anyone down.
Democratic socialism is not merely an achievement of the 20th century. It is the most essential response of the 21st century. Because without equality, there is no freedom. Without cooperation, there is no future. Because, ultimately, all of this boils down to a single word: humanity. Human fraternity is not merely a rhetorical device of our tradition; it is its very raison d’être. And as long as there is a single human being left to fend for themselves, our task will not be complete.
This is our commitment. Humble, strong and unwavering. The future.
